What would YOU do when faced with an impossible situation?

It only takes one step to impact change and sometimes it comes in the smallest packages. Little Rose burned herself on porridge and no one tended to her wound. But how could they when even they have no where to turn for help. The clinics set up to help them for free charge fees when they should not. The cost of a taxi to town is beyond there payroll.

What would you do when you have no options?

I am just thankful we were there when she burned herself in order to take action and get the antibiotics needed. None of that would have been possible without those silent helpers who donate a little here and there to help us help others.

We are a small charity for sure and finally getting our feet wet with a more specific purpose. To help these children out in a village located in the Manafwa district outside a city called Tororo. The school was started a few years back with the hope to provide a safe learning environment for the orphans, disabled, and impoverished children in the area when the Government school wasn’t fulfilling that need. So yes we are small and yes we are just learning the ropes but IMAGINE what we can do with ONE child at a time shown that bit of COMPASSION we are led to do. So let it begin with little Rose receiving that compassion and attention she needs.

Thank you my new partner in this big journey ahead.

Check out the ‘Our Kids’ page to see other children we are helping through this ministry of compassion. Your gift of $35/month goes to help those with the least and furthers my, Sarah’s, dream to bring great joy out of great suffering. I am not searching anymore for where I belong or what I am to do…

We are to build a school of compassion and help anyone who is blinded by pain

Possibilities of what we can do together

It’s my hope to share with all of you the little moments spent with children in Africa so that you can imagine how much it helps to just ‘Be’ in the presence of others. We are a small charity but with your help we can help many. First we want to at least get some school fees paid and perhaps a school uniform for those that couldn’t afford one because it raises self esteem. When I go back in December we might even start a pig farm to help the people living there support themselves and the school they hope to build because it’s the right thing to do. Imagine what you could do with a little dose of Possibilities! With one step forward you can partner with us to make sure each child gets that firm hug and eye contact to know compassion is real because deep down all we need is a hug some days.

You know your on the right path when you hear the word Free

Can you believe that today I had my own little miracle happen? God takes care of widows and today after spending almost 3 hours at the mechanic to get my oil changed he worked his magic. Free! the $40 it was supposed to cost was on the house today because they took forever trying to find an oil filter for my car. But wait! It doesn’t stop there! My next visit is free too!

So I have no income and give away what little bit of money I do have, but at least my oil change was taken care of today and tomorrow:)

My salary is paid with long waits of patience opportunities and unconventional ways of supplementing a ‘normal’ income. Yea it’s not the most comfortable or risk free way of living but it beats paying $40 I didn’t have today for routine car maintenance at a place I hadn’t visited since Andy died. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?! Perhaps my utility bills will randomly get lost in the system.

Simon says

Hi!

His mother poisoned his father and than left him and his brother in 2012. He really likes reading the bible.
He told me his favorite subject in school is Science. Although I doubt it, he told me he likes the color red, but that was after several kids before him told me the same answer.

What I remember about him was one afternoon I was sitting with a group of kids reading the bible and when I stopped to pause (because my stomach was ill) and picked up reading again he corrected me on where I left off in reading. He had been leaning over my shoulder the entire time following my reading of a Psalm. The font was very small but he was so intent with what I was reading he picked up on every word I spoke!

A corrupt system

As we grow our needs grow which is why now is the time to Ask for Help. The year is ending and many are turning there minds to Christmas and giving. If I could ask for one thing it would be to have another year to able to go where God says and Do what he says, which means Sarah needs Support. This has weighed heavy on my mind for sometime and I am reminded by others that Sarah needs help to. But each time I see the kids in Africa I think I can squeeze one more kid out of government school into a private school where they may have a chance to get out of poverty. The government ‘free’ schools are 100+ to 1 teacher and they say they are free but on my last visit I learned kids go hungry. Why? The fee for breakfast and lunch may be paid by a parent but since the majority of parents pay nothing then there is never enough porridge and beans purchased for the kids to eat that do pay. It is a system corrupt and broken.

At another area in Uganda we hope to help build a school for orphans, impoverished, and disabled children. The Building Goal page shows our progress towards making that dream come true.

My biggest announcement is I am moving To Africa March 1, 2016 for 3-4 months to start. I have a place to lay my head and shelter. It is my hope to work with the people there and learn daily problems and successes as we work towards our building goal. I might even teach some english.

This can’t become possible without Partners in prayer and financially. If you have time to look at the Donate page and want to join our team in some way, please consider coming alongside us by helping me find each kid who needs compassion.

Snapshots of a journey

Healing Eyes

A widow suddenly not so barren anymore

What does one barren widow do with 200 newly adopted children in a remote village in Africa?

NO IDEA!

Does anyone out there have any ideas?

I have fallen in love with 2 special girls who caught my attention when I first arrived at the distant school in Eastern Uganda. There names are Mercy and Sarah. It was when I was taking a few kids aside to interview them one on one when I made the discovery that the 2 girls I saw my first day there were total orphans. For some reason God put them in my sights before I even knew why I was supposed to notice them.

It’s my hope that by sharing stories of children who touched my heart that more people out there will reach out to me wanting to help through prayer and/or monthly support.

Mercy

Mercy: age 7

Her father is unknown and her mother abandoned her. She now is under the care of one of the teacher’s at the school who also lives alone (I can’t go into detail as to her story but she has an amazing heart and one child of her own).

Sarah : age 9

Her father passed away and the mother abandoned her. She also lives with the same loving teacher.

Both of these girls are shy and reserved, as many of the children are at this struggling school in the bush. It’s hard to know what life is like for them or what pain they have gone through but in there eyes is a shimmer of hope that even through loss we all can succeed.

What does Go mean?

Go he says!

Go now he says….

Ok then I went and now what? Arrived Tuesday night..Wednesday was spent waiting for travel..Thursday we waited all day for our lost luggage.

We spent today mostly playing Go Fish in Kampala, not quite what I expected but do we ever know what to expect when we Go?

My little brain didn’t fully realize the motives behind the waiting game, Go Fish game, and the lost luggage from our flight but God did. So we prayed frequently today as we got impatient and ornery at each other. Fought off a few fights and survived the day quite contently.

Our results?

  1. We met a pastor and arranged the visit to the remote school of orphans.
  2. We got drinking water supply
  3. Exchanged money
  4. Got a car
  5. And since we waited all day for our lost luggage we have our friend coming with us tomorrow as our guide again. She originally couldn’t go until Friday evening but now since we delayed our long trip (from Wednesday) to the east of Uganda she can come with.

Even though the day seemed long and unproductive by American standards we did a lot on God time.

Healing Eyes

Why should you care?

Scared to Death…Saturday is FASTLY approaching and somehow I have to show up confident and NOT a basket case to talk for 10 minutes in front of who knows how many people.

What am I talking about?

The WHOA Benefit Concert is THIS Saturday at 6pm at Family of Christ Church. Two amazing local bands are playing and one of them has taken over the entire planning…THANKFULLY! What do I have left to do but PRAY and pull my photos together in order for God to touch hearts in 10 minutes of me babbling on about Africa.

Why should you care?

Don’t…there are tons of other organizations doing huger relief efforts than me and they are experienced in doing it. A sure thing investing money in them. BUT what if we aren’t investing MONEY into Africa but instead we seek to invest in COMPASSION and LOVE? Could that me the niche for Healing Eyes that is sorely needed? To NOT throw material things at a problem but instead throw God, Love, and Compassion to those in need? It’s not physically tangible at FIRST but if you could see the smiles and the ripple effect of unselfish love given in order to just Build a Relationship. Later on the buildings and supplies can come but in truth we first need to just add that ‘flavor’ to the world and see how God can twist it into HIS plan. If that plan means buildings and supplies down the road than great…let HIM do it and not US.

All God wants is willing participants in HIS Plan and If Healing Eyes and little Sarah can be a partner to his plan and see what happens that HOW awesome would it be to connect more people in the GRAND scheme of HIS.

Join us This Saturday for MUSIC and fun. Should be some pizza slices to purchase and of course you get to hear a bit more about what Healing Eyes is up to with Project 616
