Blurred lines between work and pleasure

Too often depression and sadness blinds our sight. It’s easier to concentrate on doom and gloom than seeing they joy around us. Yesterday I asked for a blessing and to expand my territory. Those of you who know from past posts that is a prayer I use cautiously. It seems whenever I use it I am blessed that very day, but only when I truly ask with a heart seeking it.

My days are blurred between what is employment and what is a vacation in this journey of mine. Too often I refuse to accept a break out of guilt of did I do enough to deserve it. Running a tiny non-profit just getting off its feet is frustrating and time consuming but without set hours I can’t tell which hours are for work and what is free time. Did I accomplish enough today to allow for fun tomorrow? Through my eyes I see little progress and insurmountable odds against me.

If I step back and list what God has done and what I have done I see progress. However, the progress wasn’t by my doing. The benefit concert coming up was my cousin’s idea after picking her brain. Or was it God using her? Next, were the 2 bands I found led to me by God or my own effort? Anyone can argue this in either direction but I can say I have no experience organizing this type of event and yet it’s happening. God saw to it that I was put with the right people who also have faith and the skills needed. Relieving me of the heavy burden.

Perhaps life is about sharing what God can do to others through a actual actions. If so then I have another example of God working his agenda through me.

I prayed for a chance to sail out to buck island while on st Croix and he arranged one for me yesterday. Once on the sailboat I sat quietly since I knew few of the people going. As we sailed off one of the ladies on the boat started talking to me and I found out she used to be an executive director for a non profit and was in charge of grants and fundraising. Early this month I have been praying for people with fundraising skills and those with a passion for helping others. He answered it through a leisurely boat ride on crystal blue water one afternoon. So was I working or enjoying free time? Will this new connection lead to more support for Healing Eyes? I have no clue as I’m not in control …God is and I’m just hanging on for the ride.

I only pray now for strength to withstand the waves of doubt and grief as the journey becomes more perilous in my eyes but clearer through His.

In a month I’ll be heading to Africa again. This time, however, I have no road map and no fellow ministry to rely on. Just a series of events leading up to the trip that have compiled a huge portfolio in God’s favor.

I’m ever a skeptic and always questioning but I still can believe in something I can’t see because it has worked out for the good so far. Why would it stop working now?:)

What a fast response to creative ways to help out…

It happened so fast that I hardly believe it myself but I now have in my hands a Free Laptop given to me out of response to the need I blogged about only 2 hours ago. No sooner had I clicked publish, I got a message saying, “I have a laptop you can have”!

Crazy!

The laptop donated is missing a battery and the power cord is a bit frayed. Do I dare push my luck and put the request out for a laptop battery and power cord now? If anyone wanted to help out these are links to Amazon where they are quite inexpensive. It would be a huge blessing and a complete answer to Prayers for helping me help the orphans in Africa with Computer skills.

Milestone for Healing Eyes Inc

Well I did it! I clicked the submit button and now I wait…wait…and wait…to hear if I am approved.

My 501c3 application is in the hands of the IRS now and I’ll need as much prayer as I can get that the application gets approved and that it goes smoothly from here on out. It’s all fine and dandy to go off and volunteer to help kids but then there is the paperwork and the taxes and the paperwork eeeeek!

  • Another quick update. I am now fully stocked with Rubber bands for the kids and we have a wee bit over 100 bracelets made for Africa Mission trip. It’s so great to see everyone gathering around to make this happen. Yay! Rubber bands!
  • The Africa trip is fast approaching and I just extended it by 3 days in order to visit an orphanage in Soroti. Pray the planning and preparation goes smoothly. Getting nervous. If anyone wants to make a last minute donation and get a tax write off please contact me ASAP so I can get you the mailing address. My deadline to pay is by December 13.
  • Mosquitos are quite irritating this time of year and I am hopeful I won’t get the chikungunya virus going around.

Ah crap…not my Jeep!!!

2pm and it’s time to volunteer at the Boys and Girls club…so…I get in my Jeep and head out… but wait…something bad is about to happen eek!

After driving down the road the Jeep started to make a noise!

While turning around to bring the Jeep to the mechanic I stalled at a red light and begged for the jeep to start.. it did.. but … then a few miles down it stalled while going down a hill. The brakes got soft and I had to use the handbrake to come to a stop on the side of the road next to some guys cleaning cars.

Hand Smack!!!

Smoke coming out of the engine and a clanging sound. One of the guys comes up and we talk, I was only a mile away from the mechanic and thankfully the guy offered to pull me with a rope. Another guy volunteered to steer and I went along for the ride.

My Jeep was coasting down the hill and I was led, quite literally, to two guys named, Jesus and Jacob who pulled me to the mechanic with a tattered piece of string. Nice guys at least, they also do mechanic work so maybe they’ll be cheaper if the engine is savable. I decided to hug Jesus, I mean why not he saved me $75 for a tow truck (he kissed me on the cheek, he didn’t speak much english). I told them my name, Sarah, and they laughed, another biblical name from the bible. At least I can laugh about the fact that now I have no car.

I was going to say Pray it was seized up but I just got a call. Its the radiator and all the hoses and whistles to go with it. So now I am out $610 to fix it.

Would it be bad to put the donate button on this post for anyone that wants to help an island gal out who just wants to help the kids since God said to sell everything and move to an island to mentor to kids ?  I could really use a miracle right about now 🙁

Prayer Request

After a long day of sitting around and feeling sorry for myself and being bored I gave in and started typing up my old journal for my ‘book or novel’.

I noticed that after Andy died I prayed that God take me life and use it. To distance me from loved ones so that I could find myself again. Who would have thought he would have literally answered that prayer. Be careful what you pray for!

So now I pray a new prayer.

God please take my life again and use it to help the kids in pain, suffering, and feeling alone. If for the time it’s in St. Croix than I thank you for that opportunity. I pray, however, that you will take me even farther and give me a chance to be with kids who are dying from illness, neglect, and abuse. Expand my territory. I seek the kids in other countries that need a stranger’s love and compassion. Give me the feet to go and feel their pain, to cry with them and to be present in the suffering. No more do I want to feel just my loss, let me feel the pain of others! I pray for even more than what you have given me. My heart can withstand it, you built my heart for such a purpose. You knit me in my mother’s womb knowing ahead of time what my purpose would be. Give me the training I need now to heal the wound of infertility but leave a scar behind to remind me of how precious life is.

Peter 5:6
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Let the power of prayer begin?
